Rose Garden covers around 10 acres of land, near the Charring Cross at Vijayanagaram. This garden comprises terraces with pergolas, rose tunnels and bowers with rose creepers. There are around 3600 varieties of roses in this garden. Tourists can visit this garden for seeing Miniature roses, Hybrid Tea roses, Ramblers and Floribunda. Roses of unusual colours, including green and black, can also be seen in this garden. Moreover, the perfect location of Nila Maadam allows visitors to clearly view the entire Rose Garden.
Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department has maintained this garden over the years. In 2006, this garden was recognised as the ‘Garden of Excellence’ by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS).
Kodaikanal Lake, a man-made lake, is located in the Kodaikanal city of Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu. Considered as one of the most popular geographic landmarks and tourist attractions, this lake is located at a distance of 3 km from the bus stand. Perched at an elevation of 2,285 m above sea level, this lake is star shaped.
Enclosing an area of around 60 acres, the lake has an average depth of 3 m. The lake was created in 1863 by Sir Vere Hentry Levinge, who was the collector of Madurai. He came to this place after his retirement and converted this marshy land with several streams of lake.
Tourists visiting this artificial lake can take a walk around this lake or can enjoy several activities such as cycle rides and horse rides. In addition, fishing can also be done at this lake; however tourists need to obtain permission from Inspector of Fisheries. Boating can also be enjoyed on this lake, for which boats are provided by Tamil Nadu Tourist Development Corporation and Kodaikanal Boat & Rowing Club.
Lady's Seat, Gent's Seat and Children's Seat, located to the south-west of Shevaroy Hill, are the names given to a group of rocks located on the Yercaud Hills. These are present in the form of a seat, which overlooks the Salem town and ghat road. The Lady' Seat has derived its name from a set of rocks made naturally.
It is believed that an English lady used to spend her evenings at this place watching the beautiful view from this rock. In addition, the place also houses a viewing tower, which is equipped with a telescope so as to enjoy the beautiful view of Mettur Dam and Salem town. This viewing tower is open for visitors only during the day time.
Swamimalai Hill has a strong base with a towering summit reaching up to the sky. Shaped like cake, this hill is a favourite trekking and mountain climbing spot with tourists. In the vicinity, there are many peaks highest of which measure 4,338 m. By trekking on a 3 km long track leading to Swamimalai Hill, tourists can reach a small peak from where the entire valley is visible.
From the eastern side of the lake, the trek starts. In the neighbourhood of this site are located Javadi Hills, Pallamathi Hills and others.
The Agaya Gangai Waterfall in Kolli Hills gushes down from a height of 300 ft into the River Aiyaru. The waterfall lies very close to the Arappaleeshvarar temple and is surrounded by mountains on all sides. This site is suitable for trekking and is best visited during the monsoon season.
Located in the south of the Sigur Plateau in Tamil Nadu, Bellikkal is a small village. It is situated at an altitude of 5,500 feet in the Nilgiris of the Western Ghats. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses from several major cities in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are available for Bellikkal. Best time to visit Bellikkal is from October through May, when the weather is comfortable and dry.
Sholayar Dam is considered to be the second deepest dam in the continent of Asia. It is part of the Hydroelectric Project of Tamil Nadu. The dam is situated around 20 km away from Valparai.
Kodanad View Point is around 16 km away from Kotagiri in the Nilgiri District. From this point, the Rangasamy Peak, Rangasamy Pillar, Catherine Falls and Dolphin's Nose can be seen. It also provides a beautiful view of the Bhavanisagar Reservoir, Deccan Plateau and Thengumarahada Village.
